Our History
Central Baptist Church was organized in October 1963 by Pastor Harry Owens, his wife and twenty-six other members as the First Baptist Church of Occoquan and was located in the Town of Occoquan in Prince William County. In 1967 land was purchased on Omisol Road in Lake Ridge (Woodbridge). A building was erected and the church moved to the new location in 1969, and in 1979 the name of the church was changed to Central Baptist Church of Woodbridge.
In 1987 Pastor Owens resigned due to ill health, and Pastor Joseph Harrah assumed the pastorate, he and his wife, Suzi and family, moved to Prince William county from West Virginia. Under Pastor Harrah's leadership the church has been involved in world evangelization through Faith Promise Plan of Giving, supporting 109 missionaries and missions agencies around the world in 49 countries.
In 1996 the church purchased the old telephone building (current location) from Verizon. In 1997 the church moved into the building and was dedicated on June 20, 1998 by Neabsco Magisterial District Supervisor John Jenkins.
In May 2002 Pastor Brad Weniger was installed as the new pastor. He moved here from Marysville, California with his wife, Gwendolyn and their son Brad. Under his leadership Faith Promise Giving has grown and the church supports over 150 missionaries, missions agencies and church planting efforts worldwide and nationwide. Several other outreach ministries have begun under his leadership.
